Described as having "Verve, vitality, and imagination," Ben has performed all across North America while as a member of Calgary's Foothills Brass Quintet (2002-2008) as well as with his trio, Keybrass. He is also the music director for Canmore's Valley Winds. Ben has held
positions with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, the
Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, the Illinois Philharmonic, the
Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Band of the
Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa.
Ben is a regular substitute for the Calgary
Philharmonic Orchestra and is in demand as a freelance musician in the Calgary and Bow Valley area.. He is also a member of the trombone quartet, Dem Bones.
Ben holds degrees from the
University of Western Ontario and DePaul University. He
attended the Tanglewood Festival Institute and apprenticed at
the National Academy Orchestra. His teachers include Mark Fisher, Charles Vernon, Jay Friedman, and Arnold Jacobs. His
arrangements have been published by Eighth Note
Publications in Toronto.
He was a
semi-finalist for the 2003 CBC Radio Competition for
Young Performers.
Recently, Ben was invited to particpate in the Alessi Seminar V hosted by New York Philharmonic Principal Trombonist Joseph Alessi.
He makes his home in Calgary where his hobbies include jogging, yoga and cooking with Beth.
Ben is currently
performing on the Yamaha YSL-882G0 Xeno Trombone and
Yamaha YSL-671 Alto Trombone.
